If you love tennis, Magic Express Tennis Club (METC) is the club for you. Since its beginning in 1983, the club has grown over the years in members and activities. Presently, Magic Express boasts over 100 members of all ages and skill levels from beginners to seasoned players. The club's home court is Elmira Park (just beyond the intersection of Fayetteville and Cornwallis, near NCCU). No matter how often you play, Magic Express offers you fun and challenging tennis.
Practice Days Come pick up a game on Magic Express practice days. On most weeknights during the spring, summer and early fall, club members of all skill levels gather to play matches, practice techniques, and socialize. If you're looking to improve different aspects of your game, there are designated practice days and two courts are dedicated to practice drills for all levels of players. To find out when the practice days take place, contact any of the club officers.
Competitive Play After you've come to the Practice Days, put your game to the test. METC participates in several USTA leagues, Doubles and Mixed Doubles leagues, travel matches against other tennis clubs and a variety of tournaments. Magic Express sponsors three of its own tournaments during the years two of them are free to members.
Magic Express Junior Development Program Where can you look to find the next Pete Sampras, or Venus and Serena Williams? At Magic Express Junior Development program! Begun in 1999, the program is open to kids of all levels of play, ages 8-18. Sessions are taught in the spring and summer, and culminate with a tennis fun day/pizza party. Magic Kids learn basic skills and begin friendships and tennis relationships with other kids. The program is taught by Magic Express members and is led by Donn Aikins, METC Junior Development Director.
Social Activities Magic Express has two main ingredients: tennis and fun. There's an end-of-season party, cookouts that include hours of tennis play, and a variety of impromptu club gatherings. Plus, club members travel to the US Open as a group.
Indoor Tennis Parties Magic Express is a year-round tennis club. In the winter months, Magic Express hosts tennis parties at indoor tennis facilities. For a small fee you can come play tennis and have food, music and fun.
Club Newsletter Each quarter, the club newsletter, Magic Expressions, is mailed out to club members. It includes the names and phone numbers of all members (in case you're looking for a tennis partner), club business, and information on upcoming tournaments, health tips, and of course, tennis tips.
